P-D REFRACTORIES are a high-performance  and competent manufacturer of refractory products. Our experience, our knowhow, and and our competativeness are common to all companies  that are united under our group of companies.

We are one of the market leaders in Europe for the production and delivery of refractory materials. Our product range has been continuously extended , the production capacity has been increased and the costs have been optimized by synergy effects.  Cooperation with our customers  based on partnership, and targetted research are further pillars of our work.

To date, P-D Refractories employs 1300 people world-wide and operates seven plants in Europe.  The product delivery range is continuously adapted to the market situation and currently covers more than 16.000 different products.

Feuerfestwerke Wetro

Aluminosilicate refractory materials have been manufactured and distributed from the production site at Feuerfestwerke Wetro for more than 100 years.

The fundamental start point for the earlier production was the high grade refractory clays of the Lausitz region, which were mined in the plant’s own open pit mines. Today, the plant relies on selected raw materials being obtained on the world market. The clientele of the company includes nearly all domestic industrial production and service areas, and those abroad in which fire, firing, melting and temperature resistance play a decisive role.

An expansion of the production site in Wetro fostered a production increase. The current delivery schedule shows about 16.000 different products.  The cooperative alliances with our customers at home and abroard  brings new demands which lead to a steady extension and optimization of the available formats and grades.

Dr. C. Otto

P-D Refractories GmbH, Dr. C. Otto produces high quality refractory products using modern systems and manufacturing techniques at the plant in Bochum. The quality of the products is based on know-how gathered over a time period that spans more than 135 years, and from enthusiastic pursuit of innovation. Tailored solutions are available to every customer in addition to already well established standard products.

The delivery programme covers primarly shaped and fired products with a conent of  SiO2, Al2O3, MgO and ZrO2, as well as mixtures and specifically composed mortars, putty,  and mastics.

DYKO-GLASS

DYKO GLASS acquired its name after being merged with Dynamidon which was part of the Koppers company that was founded by Heinrich Koppers, a close collaborator of Dr. Carlos Otto (Bochum).  Today, DYKO GLASS is recognized world-wide by its reputation as a specialist in the lining of glass melting plants.

The know-how collected over decades is the basis for a broad range of refractory products for regenerative, recuperative, continuously and discontinuously operated melting aggregates with systems of conventional air fuel or oxygen fuel heating.  Also fully electrically heated glass melting plants and plants with combined system,  in side-heated and U-flame tanks and unit melter types (Heye melter) including forehearths and feeders are all equipped with our company’s products.

Our products are used in all glass industries.  The range of products on offer for applications in the glass industries includes aluminosilicate and fireclay rich products, zirconium mullite, zirconium silicate, chromium oxide and chromium corundum. Isostatically pressed product variations and tin bath bottom blocks top up our product portfolio.

Westerwälder Thonindustrie

Westerwälder Thonindustrie was founded in 1899 in Breitscheid/Westerwald. The prime reason for the choice of the location was the local clay resource for raw materials and brown coal as the energy source.

Today, some clay from Westerwälder Thonindustrie is used, but mainly raw materials from the world market are used for the manufacture of the high quality refractory products.

The product portfolio includes:

  • wear and tear materials for ingot casting in the  steel industry
  • linings for furnaces, stoves, tiled stoves and  ’’Hafner fireclay“
  • tunnel furnace kiln car structures and kiln furniture for the coarse ceramics industry

These products have an Al2O3 content of 30 % to 70 %, depending on their final use. They are manufactured by plastic shaping under low tolerances .

MSLZ

The company was founded in 1892 and has been known since 1950 under the name MSLZ Velké Opatovice. The company is well-known and belongs today,  due to the takeover by the P-D group and successive investment, to the biggest and most successful refractory manufacturer in Europe.

P-D Refractories CZ a.s is equipped with the latest manufacturing and testing techniques, and thereby guarantees the highest possible quality standard.  The delivery of specific custom made modified qualities is also guaranteed.  P-D Refractories CZ a.s is certified according to ISO 9001:2008 and thus is equally certified by ISO standards as the German production locations.

Plant Velké Opatovice

The existence of the Velké Opatovice plant has played an important role in the development of its local region for more than 100 years. The plant provides the domestic industry and the industry abroad with its products.  The production equipment handles a broad product line with blocks of up to several hundred kilos in weight, shaped blocks, and magnesite bricks for night storage heaters, etc.

Plant Dinas Svitavy

Modern refractory materials with sophisticated shapes must be manufacutured  using high precision plant equipment when seeking to achieve the best possible quality.  Dinas Svitavy was founded in 1985 with considerable capital investment and started its production with high quality silica materials and chimney ducts.
