Westerwälder Thonindustrie was founded in 1899 in Breitscheid/Westerwald. The prime reason for the choice of the location was the local clay resource for raw materials and brown coal as the energy source.
Today, some clay from Westerwälder Thonindustrie is used, but mainly raw materials from the world market are used for the manufacture of the high quality refractory products.
The product portfolio includes:
- wear and tear materials for ingot casting in the steel industry
- linings for furnaces, stoves, tiled stoves and ’’Hafner fireclay“
- tunnel furnace kiln car structures and kiln furniture for the coarse ceramics industry
These products have an Al2O3 content of 30 % to 70 %, depending on their final use. They are manufactured by plastic shaping under low tolerances .
