Being market leader in the area of silica products (silica bricks, fused silica) and alumosilicate bricks (fireclay and high-alumina bricks) represents just one part of our success story in the glass industry. Innovative special products with high finishing requirements, such as forming blocks for TFT- LCD substrate glass by overflow-downdraw-process, tin bath bottom blocks (Verral 40 FT) for float glass lines and isostatically pressed products such as chromic oxide and zircon blocks are among our specialties.

Our tight and decade long cooperation with our customers in different glass industries enables us to offer a wide ranged product portfolio for glass furnaces, in particular for critical applications – irrespective whether flat glass, fiber glass, container glass or specialty glass lines are concerned.

In addition we offer innovative solutions for auxiliaries such as channel systems, drawing chambers, regenerators, ceramic recuperators, feeder forehearth and spouts including feeder expendables.

Flat Glass

The main section of the flat glass grouping consists of soda-lime glass. The composition of this glass is subject to small variations according to the manufacturing process and area of application. These days, the greatest amount of flat glass is manufactured by the float procedure and is used in the automotive, building, solar and electronic industries. Also the rolling procedure and the drawing technique plays a role in flat glass production in the manufacture of ornament glass, wire glass and solar glass.

Our customers appreciate our broad decades of experience in providing material and service for even the most diverse of glass aggregates.  Furthermore this sector is complemented by our usual high quality products, including ceramically bound refractory materials such as the universally known tin bath bottom block Verral 40 FT.

Container Glass

The most widely used glass products belong to the group of container glass. The dominating part of this glass group is soda-lime glass. The composition of this glass type is subject to small variations according to the manufacturing process and area of application. Furthermore products like industrial glass and daily use glass are also part of this glass category. The method of operation of these melting plants (end-heated, site heated or recuperative) and the concepts used for integration of refractory materials are often identical. The P-D Refractories Group has offered these aggregates for decades including all ceramically bound, shaped or unshaped refractory products.

Fiber Glass

E-glass or ECR glasses are from another section of the fiber glass group. These glasses are melted with different low alkali and boroxide free glass components at high temperatures, either in recuperative heated but often also in oxygen heated plants.

When for use in the glass contact area, isostatically pressed, dense or thermal heat resistant chromium oxide brands are used.  Dense, isostatically pressed zirconium silicate products are used for electrode blocks as ‘’bushing“ blocks, and also in security areas. Furthermore the upper part of the oven and the exhaust are lined with highly resistant and corrosion resistant blocks, fired at high temperatures.

Mineral Wool

C-glass and rockwool plants fall into the mineral wool category. These plants are either recuperatively heated, air/oxygen heated, or are fully electrically heated.

Our isostatically pressed chromium corundum bricks with different chromium oxide contents of 30 % to 95 % have proved themselves to be the best in areas where there is molten material contact. Special heatproof and corrosion resistant brands of material are specified for the superstructure and the exhausts.  Our silicate products are also used in some furnace superstructures.

Special Glass

Glass for medical and technical purposes, like borosilicate glass, crystal glass/lead glass and several other special items belong to this group.  We offer a variety of ceramically bound refractory solutions for these special melting aggregates, including isostatically pressed special products for the manufacture of TFT-LCD substrate glasses by the downdraw overflow procedure.
