Flat Glass

The main section of the flat glass grouping consists of soda-lime glass. The composition of this glass is subject to small variations according to the manufacturing process and area of application. These days, the greatest amount of flat glass is manufactured by the float procedure and is used in the automotive, building, solar and electronic industries. Also the rolling procedure and the drawing technique plays a role in flat glass production in the manufacture of ornament glass, wire glass and solar glass.

Tin Bath Bottom Blocks

In 1957 the first float glass plant went into operation.  Since that time the procedure for the manufacture of flat glass has changed fundamentally.  The tin bath follows the melting process and is a special aggregate of plant components consisting of a metal casing, refractory lining, liquid tin and glass band. Tin bath bottom blocks have to withstand special stress from its contact with the metal melt under reducing conditions and in a hydrogenous atmoshpere. The development of tin bath bottom blocks which perfectly suit these conditions was pursued in close cooperation with the float glass plant operators.  These patented, large scale blocks, processed on six faces to tight tolerances, have been manufactured in our company under the name Verral 40 FT since 1987, and have been used successfully world-wide since that time.
