Our today’s position as the market leader for the manufacture of refractory material for coke oven plants is based on know- how and the continuous innovations achieved over 140 years. The history of German coke industry is strongly connected with the founders of our sites in Bochum and Düsseldorf, Dr. Carlos Otto and Dr. Heinrich Koppers. We do have an outstanding role in the production of refractory bricks and mortar for coke oven plants since that time. We have marked the history in the development of regenerative horizontal chamber coke ovens and the steady development of various brick types due to the long-standing symbiosis with the plant building sector and the closeness to the plant operators. The introduction of silica bricks as the exclusive building mate- rial for coke oven chambers was one of the precursors for the development of modern, environmentally-friendly and energy- saving high capacity coke ovens of all kinds.
