Feeder expendables

PD-Refractories offers a broad variety of formats and grades of high quality expendables in different zircon mullite, aluminum oxide and fused silica types. Different shaping processes are used for the production of the expendables: hand ramming, slip casting, vibro casting and isostatic pressing. All grades fired with the correct temperature after shaping and drying. Thus, they are granting a long service life and in addition together with the choosing of high quality raw materials, a low glass defect potential. Inserts for orifice rings in aluminum oxide or isostatic pressed zircon mullite and chromium oxide and for the spouts extend the life time considerably. P-D Refractories is considering for the material selection all important parameters including the appropriate operating conditions, the type of glass, the operating temperature and the requirements on the format.

PD PreForm shapes are manufactured from alkaline earth silicate wools, which have high solubility insimulated body fluids and hence carry no hazard classification. These wools are blended with specially selected organic binders to give flexible insulating shapes with exceptional characteristics.

MICROTHERM® FBK are tailor made kits of microporous insulation for glass feeder bowls. The kits consist of different MICROTHERM® materials, specially chosen to allow fast assembly on-site.
The formulation is an opacified blend of filament reinforced pyrogenic silica. MICROTHERM® FBK is the reference in glass feeder bowl insulation and ensures optimised thermal performance during discharge from the forehearth, guaranteeing the best possible overall quality.

The PD-IsoMix 137 M55h material is a lightweight castable designed for orifice ring and spout insulation. It is a flowing castable, which allows the orifice ring or the spout refractory to be placed in the casing, and then the insulating material could be poured around it, filling even the smallest crevices. Setting time is around 1-2 hours on room temperature. In case of glass leakage, it stops the flow of the hot glass immediately, prevent the bigger damage.

The highest wear area in a spout is the lip surrounding the bottom aperture. If the orifice ring must be replaced after the lip has been corroded, it is impossible to stop the glass stream by lowering the feeder tube.
P-D Refractories offers spouts with CR or fused cast insert. Used in conjunction with ZM30F spout bodies. Inserted spouts have greater life span, 150 - 250% depending on production conditions.

For pat lines – long run

Typically these lines manufacture beer and wine containers and account for approximately 10% of global installed IS Container machines.
P-D Refractories offers multiple orifice rings with very dense corundum inserts made of AL95TB or isostatically pressed chromium oxide CR90-GE. By using these special inserts orifice ring the saving going to be significant due to the less job changes during a campaign.
The lifetime could be 50-200% more with these inserts, depending on the glass conditions and temperature.
