Titanium Dioxide
For titanium dioxide production, the chloride process is applied when titanium mineral rutile is used as the raw material. Enriched rutile is mixed with coke and diffused in a fluidized bed furnace, the so-called chlorinator, with chlorine gas at temperatures of up to 1,400 °C. After further steps, pure titanium dioxide is finally annealed by heating the resulting titanium chloride in a rotary kiln with additional oxygen at up to 1,200 °C. These simultaneous and extreme conditions of chemical, abrasive and thermal attacks, require special chlorine-resistant, dense and abrasion-resistant qualities that can withstand temperatures up to 1,400 °C in this medium of the chlorinator.
