High-Alumina Zirconia Bricks
These sintered and porous brick types (porosity 15 - 22 vol %) are combinations of zirconium mullite and corundum. Different shaping technologies, such as slip casting, vibration compaction, moulding by hand and isostatic pressing are in use. The bricks are mainly used in the glass industry as material for chutes and feeder expendables, as a bottom protection layer and for the superstructure of furnaces and for the exhaust section of soda lime melters. A long plant life and a low glass fault rate are guaranteed by the selection of pure raw materials and adequately high firing temperatures. The use of isostatically pressed zirconium mullite for orifice rings and feeders prolongs the plant life considerably.
